Paul Casey disrupts Tiger’s run at the Valspar Championship

Well shit. Today was one of the more highly anticipated rounds of golf on the PGA Tour since 2013. Shot in the dark here, but most people are probably a little disappointed with the outcome.

Paul Casey started the day 5 strokes off the lead with a glimmer of hope to actually win the Championship. He went out and posted a number early, and nobody could catch him. I was thinking that Patrick Reed was at least going to make it interesting and force a playoff, but instead he decided to choke on the 18th green. That’s what you get for trying to wear red and black on a Sunday when Tiger is in contention!

Now let’s get to the real talk and discuss why we didn’t get to see Tiger Woods in the winner circle this afternoon. It’s very clear that Tiger Woods has proved he is healthy and can compete with these young guns. There was still something missing today which caused him to lose the tournament. He looked good off of the tee, only had one bogey, two birdies, and shot 1-under par on the day. I have to admit, it was the most lethargic 1-under par round I have seen in a VERY long time. He just could NOT get anything going with the putter. We are used to hearing the big roars on Sunday when Tiger is in the hunt, but we were unable to get any of those until he hit this putt on 17 today:

We have become so accustom to seeing that time and time again, but it was just too little too late today. The iron game was OFF. He hit a lot of fairways, but put a ton of pressure on his putting. He managed to save par all day, but was unable to get on the birdie train. He had 2 great birdie opportunities on 8 and 11 but both lipped out – story of the day for Tiger.

After the performance this week I can say with complete confidence, Tiger WILL get that 80th win sometime this year – He looks great! Nothing but positive thoughts have to be running through every single Tiger Woods fan today, maybe next week at Bay Hill?

Oh, and I realized that I did NOT do to well on my predictions this weekend. Sorry, I am human, new to this, and was trying to make a dark horse pick to surprise you bastards, but it backfired. Who will the dark horse be next week?
